Alimentary Tract

Alimentary canal is the gastrointestinal (GI) tract that starts from mouth and ends with anus. Alimentary canal together with accessory organs is digestive system. Alimentary canal comprised of various organs and can be demarcated into upper GI tract and lower GI tract. Upper GI comprises of esophagus, stomach, and duodenum and the lower GI comprised of small intestine, large intestine, and anus. Disorders of alimentary tract are common and include number of disease conditions from simple inflammation such as esophagitis, gastritis, enteritis, and appendicitis to cancers such as stomach cancer and colorectal cancer.
